Replacing the Grocery Store Challenge Day 5 - How Much Seed?

There is snow on the ground as I sit here and write today's challenge.  I'm a little tired of snow, but I am thankful for the moisture.  My seeds are ordered along with more apple trees for our young organic orchard. This year I ordered a few antique apples and I cannot wait to see how they turn out!

If you are new here and are interested in taking the challenge, I suggest you start with the introduction and go here.  There you will be directed to days 1-4 challenges.

Are you ready to find out how many seeds you need for your garden?  Some of you have already started growing seeds indoors by now.  With my zone 5a, it isn't quite time.  Please do not feel overwhelmed and feel like you have to do it all!  If you can replace one thing from the grocery store, then that is a success!

Thanks to Johnny's Seeds, we do not have to use our math skills today!  Woohoo!  They have a seed calculator.  All you have to do is click the veggie seed type and how long your rows are and that's it!

Go HERE for Johnny's seed calculator!

Go through each veggie on your chart and use Johnny's seed calculator.  By our next easy assignment, we will be ready to plan out our garden design and purchase seeds if you haven't done so already!  And, be ready to enter a wonderful book giveaway!

Need a chart?  Download this one for free!

Or, copy off of mine.  We are a family of seven and I tweaked some of my numbers to my liking, so just keep that in mind!

For those who have already printed mine out, change the seed count for corn as I made a mistake!

  1. Excellent resource! I admit to being a seed buyer (as in I buy a LOT of seeds), but storing them and using them has been fine. This is a great help to me and so many others..thanks!
